"Portrait of Igor Stravinsky"

Pablo Picasso - 62 x 48 cm

famous painting Portrait of Igor Stravinsky of Pablo Picasso
Igor Stravinsky and Pablo Picasso were both cultural icons, and pioneers in their own field of work. Stravinsky was a Russian composer, pianist and conductor. He had moved to France in 1920 where he met Picasso and the two developed a friendship that would eventually lead to a collaboration. The portrait is devoid of any details simple black and white piece drawn using only contour lines- the movement of the line adds dimension to the figure. He uses the rule of thirds and places Stravinsky right in the middle of the frame with his head turning to the side, his legs are crossed and his hands are intertwined, showing that he might be anxiously waiting for something or someone or may imply some formalities. His hair is slicked back, wears round glasses and has a serious look on his face. This portrait is a testament to Picasso’s precision, Stravinsky’s humility and their friendship.
